Unit 12 Spelling Words

Our new spelling words were given out today for the students to begin studying. They must be able to spell these words correctly and use them correctly in a sentence.  Our spelling test will be on April 12th.

**Please help your student study each night even if it is for just 5 minutes. Every opportunity for reinforcement will help your child to become a better speller.

**These words are STILL giving some of the students trouble:

their, there, they’re

where, were

to, two, too

Creating sentences with your child will help him/her understand the correct use of each of the words. Together, we can make a difference!

Unit 6 Spelling Words

We will continue to work on the five words that were introduced prior to the Thanksgiving holiday.  Our test will be December 8th.  This will be the last spelling test for the first semester.  We will resume our spelling words when we return from the Christmas holidays.

Please work with the “no excuse” words along with all the other words we have learned this year.  You never know when one of these words will pop up on the test. You can also use the widget, Spelling City, to help prepare yourself for the test.

Pay extra attention to the homophones:

their, they’re, and there
to, two, and too
write, right
buy, by, bye

Don’t forget to continue reviewing the “no excuse words.”  If you are in Mrs. Craven’s group, it would be helpful to mark the vowel patterns.  Our test will be later than the normal two weeks because of the holiday.

Grammar

We are currently working on nouns – both common and proper. We will also work on making nouns plural.  Along with this, we will discuss capitalization rules.

**Please remember that all concepts are spiraled throughout the year, meaning we will continue to review all concepts that have been previously taught.
